Statement of ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray on Senate Finance Committee Hearing on Health Care Costs

WASHINGTON — Margaret A. Murray, CEO of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP), issued the following statement as the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance met for a hearing entitled “The Rising Cost of Health Care: Considering Meaningful Solutions for All Americans”:

“We agree with Senators from both parties: the costs of health care are spiraling ever higher for families across the country. But many are facing a cost cliff right now that Congress can act to avert – the pending expiration of the enhanced premium tax credits. Since their inception in 2021, these tax credits have made coverage more affordable for millions nationwide.

“Millions of consumers have received notices of significantly higher premium costs as open enrollment for Marketplace coverage has begun. Many will, in the face of these higher costs, turn away and go uninsured. Others may forgo essentials to stay covered.

“This is a choice none of our fellow Americans should have to make. We call on Congress to promptly extend the enhanced health care tax credits that working families deserve — and avert significant increases in Americans’ out-of-pocket health care costs.”
