STATEMENT OF ACAP CEO MARGARET A. MURRAY ON
WASHINGTON—Today, ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray issued the following statement on the midterm elections:
“As voters took to the polls yesterday, health care was cited in poll after poll as the single most important issue in voters’ minds. And they made their voices clear in favor of reliable, comprehensive coverage, regardless of their party label.
“Voters elected to expand Medicaid in three states—Idaho, Nebraska and Utah—opening health coverage to more than a quarter million people combined. In two other states, Kansas and Maine, voters elected governors who pledged to implement initiatives to expand Medicaid that had been stymied in previous administrations.
“The rhetoric around Medicaid expansion is inevitably giving way to facts on the ground. We see that expanding health coverage improves access to care, leads to better health outcomes, lowers uncompensated care for health care providers, and helps people with low incomes stay out of crushing medical debt.
“We congratulate the victors in elections around the country today, and look forward to working with the 116th Congress to further modernize and improve publicly-sponsored health coverage programs.”
