ACAP Joins SNPA Letter to CMCS on Continuous Eligibility Initiatives
On September 22, ACAP joined the Special Needs Plan Alliance (SNPA) and other organizations in a letter to CMCS Acting Director Caprice Knapp, expressing concern over recent guidance stating the agency will no longer approve new continuous eligibility waivers for Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries longer than 12 months.
The letter emphasizes the fact that those who rely on Medicaid for comprehensive health and long-term coverage for disabilities need to be able to maintain continuous coverage, as many will spend the majority of their lives on Medicaid despite their best efforts. Lack of continuous coverage, the letter asserts, significantly raises the chance for disenrollment for the most vulnerable due to the inefficiency of antiquated Medicaid eligibility systems.
