SAFETY NET HEALTH PLANS MOBILIZE TO DEFEND MEDICAID FROM MASSIVE CUTS
WASHINGTON—The Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) today announced a six-figure, multi-state digital advertising campaign urging Americans to write their Members of Congress to strongly oppose the largest-ever proposed cuts to Medicaid.
Ads are currently running statewide in six states: Alaska, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah and West Virginia.
“Defunding Medicaid at this extreme level hurts everyone, not just enrollees who stand to lose their health coverage. The cuts to Medicaid and other health programs in this budget bill will make communities less healthy, hospitals and clinicians less able to offer timely care to those in need, and local economies less secure,” said ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray. “Our member Safety Net Health Plans are deeply concerned that Medicaid cuts will ultimately increase health care spending while making millions less healthy.”
The advertising effort expands ACAP’s “Medicaid is US” initiative, which first organized ACAP’s Safety Net Health Plans and members of the public to oppose proposed Medicaid funding cuts in 2017.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that 8.6 million people would lose Medicaid coverage and become uninsured if current budget reconciliation legislation were to become law.
About ACAP:
ACAP represents 84 health plans, which collectively provide health coverage to more than 30 million people. Safety Net Health Plans serve their members through Medicaid, Medicare, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Marketplace and other publicly-sponsored health programs.
