ACAP RECEIVES FUNDING AWARD FROM PATIENT-CENTERED OUTCOMES RESEARCH INSTITUTE TO DISSEMINATE EVIDENCE-BASED RESEARCH

WASHINGTON—The Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) recently received a two-year, $300,000 funding award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to increase the capacity of Safety Net Health Plans to integrate PCORI research into their decisionmaking processes.

The project will support the capacity of ACAP to disseminate PCORI-supported evidence to health plans so they can effectively use evidence in their decision-making and practice. The project also supports the establishment of a learning collaborative that will focus on leveraging PCORI evidence to improve behavioral health services for Medicaid populations.

PCORI, a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010, funds studies that can provide evidence-based information to patients, their caregivers and the clinicians who care for them so they can make better-informed health care decisions.

“In the long run, research is only effective to the extent that it is applied in practice – and we want to be sure that Safety Net Health Plans and others benefit from PCORI’s research as much as possible,” said ACAP CEO Meg Murray. “This funding will help chief medical officers at Safety Net Health Plans build in a process for implementing evidence-based research in a timely way, integrating it into their health plans’ policies, and reviewing the results.

“We’re grateful to PCORI for supporting this effort and look forward to sharing the outcomes with others.”

The project will run through 2021 and will result in a toolkit that will discuss how PCORI evidence was used by plans participating in the learning collaborative.
