ACAP CEO MARGARET A. MURRAY AWARDED
PRESTIGIOUS GERMAN CHANCELLOR FELLOWSHIP

WASHINGTON – Margaret A. Murray, CEO of the Association of Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP), was recently awarded a prestigious German Chancellor Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to study the German health system. The month-long fellowship will involve looking at how German Sickness Funds compete on quality and service more than benefits and price.

The fellowship comes more than 20 years after Murray served as a  Humboldt Fellow in 1993 and 1994, which culminated in a Health Affairs study of the use of global budgeting in the German health coverage and its implication for health insurance in the U.S.

“If there’s anything that we can learn from health reform and the unceasing effort to repeal it, it’s the need to look everywhere we can to figure out what works well, what doesn’t, and how we can apply the best practices from around the world here at home,” said Murray. “I’m honored by, and grateful for, the support of the Humboldt Foundation and look forward to visiting Germany again next month.”

The German Chancellor Fellowship is an opportunity for university graduates from the People’s Republic of China, Brazil, India, the Russian Federation, and the United to network in Germany with other leaders from abroad, who are also sponsored by the Humboldt Foundation, and to explore new solutions to the global issues of our times.

During their stay in Germany, the German Chancellor Fellows pursue self-developed projects at host institutions. Projects are of social significance, have a long-term, publicly-visible impact, and conducive to advancing fellows’ career development.
