ACAP RE-ELECTS JOHN LOVELACE TO LEAD BOARD OF DIRECTORS

WASHINGTON – The Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) today announced that John Lovelace was re-elected by its Board of Directors to serve as its Chair.

First elected to the position in late 2014, Mr. Lovelace is currently President of UPMC for You, the largest Medicaid plan in western Pennsylvania, which serves more than 407,000 Medicaid enrollees and 22,000 Medicare Dual Eligible beneficiaries.  Mr. Lovelace is also President of Government Programs and Individual Advantage for UPMC Health Plan. Recently, UPMC for You was selected to negotiate a multi-year agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services to offer services to more than 400,000 people statewide who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid and/or receive Medicaid funded long-term services and supports.

“Safety Net Health Plans have expanded their reach, growing from a little more than 12 million members to more than 17 million over the last two years alone,” said Mr. Lovelace. “The Association serves an invaluable role in helping community-focused health plans share best practices and advocate for policy changes that preserve and protect the social safety net. I’m delighted to work with them for another two years.”

Mr. Lovelace also serves as Chief Program Officer at Community Care Behavioral Health Organization, a behavioral health managed care organization that is part of the UPMC Insurance Services Division. Community Care provides behavioral health coverage for more than 950,000 Medicaid beneficiaries in Pennsylvania; the organization also offers care coordination services in New York.

“John is one of the most respected and knowledgeable people in Medicaid managed care, and we’re thrilled that he’ll lead our Board over these next two critical years,” said ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray. “Every time I’ve worked with him—not just over the last two years as Board chair, but for the decade or more I’ve worked with him at ACAP—his passion for helping people is simply integral to how he faces the world. And it’s infectious. I can’t imagine a more appropriate posture from which our Board should approach the next two years.”

Mr. Lovelace first assumed the Chairmanship of ACAP on January 1, 2015. With his re-election, his term will extend through the end of calendar year 2018.
