STATEMENT OF ACAP ON MOVING TOWARD REASONABLE, EFFECTIVE FIXES FOR THE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

WASHINGTON—Margaret A. Murray, CEO of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP), made the following statement on the Senate’s vote on the “skinny repeal” legislation, which was defeated in a 51-49 vote late last night:

“Regardless of how we got here, we’re here. It’s the right result.

“The time is now for Congress to set aside an opaque process and take a different approach to changing the health care system. Congress should act immediately to fund cost-sharing reductions in the Marketplaces and to open productive conversations with all stakeholders to improve Medicaid. As we’ve noted before, the opportunities for genuine improvement are abundant. ACAP is eager to engage in reforming the health care system; we look forward to discussing ideas to improve the programs in which Safety Net Health Plans operate.

“We hope to join other health care stakeholders with Congress in a real dialogue on comprehensive health care reform.”
