ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray Elected to National Academy of Social Insurance

ACAP CEO MARGARET A. MURRAY ELECTED TO NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SOCIAL INSURANCE
WASHINGTON – Margaret A. Murray, Chief Executive Officer of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP), was recently elected to the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI).
The Academy comprises more than 1,000 of the nation’s most distinguished experts in the fields of health insurance, Social Security, worker’s compensation, unemployment insurance and other public and private benefits. Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated interest and expertise in social insurance fields, and their support and willingness to contribute to the Academy’s goals—including public education, leadership development, research and forums for discussion about social insurance.

Ms. Murray has dedicated her career to furthering health coverage for people with low incomes. For the past sixteen years, she has served as the Chief Executive Officer of ACAP, an association dedicated to strengthening Safety Net Health Plans in their work to improve the health of lower income and vulnerable populations; she has led the growth of the organization from 14 community health center-affiliated plans to 59 Safety Net Health Plans covering more than 17 million people combined.
Prior to joining ACAP, Ms. Murray was the Medicaid Director for the State of New Jersey from 1998 to 2001, where she implemented NJFamilyCare, a health insurance program for 100,000 families and adults with low incomes. She also led the rollout of a statewide full-risk managed care program which enrolled more than 100,000 disabled adults and children with special health care needs. She came to New Jersey from the Office of Management and Budget, where she managed the §1115 Medicaid managed care waiver contract negotiations between the Federal government and 18 states. She also published several articles on the German health care system as a result of an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship in Berlin.
“There are few higher honors for insurance professionals than election to the Academy,” said Murray. “I am honored and humbled to join so many distinguished names in the field. I look forward to participating in the Academy in ways that will further strengthen the safety net and make publicly-supported health coverage more accessible and affordable.”
